Nice informative & very useful blog.
Web 2.0 is transforming the Internet into an even more powerful tool for businesses seeking to leverage technology to drive revenue.In order to effectively compete and meet the growing demands of today's more sophisticated customer, businesses are fanatically seeking to upgrade their web sites with features that enhance the user experience and deliver a measurable ROI from their marketing dollars. Businesses will focus on shifting their web sites from isolated, static information based destinations to highly functional platforms serving powerful web applications to end users that emphasize online collaboration, sharing, interaction and learning.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on my post.
@Susan - I agree with you...and do believe that we will see enough transformational case studies which are going to push adoption forward.

@Dave - In my travels and interviews with companies it seems like there is a state of permanent pilot surrounding social media programs in companies. It does not make it on the CMO's radar because they do not spend enough money on it and because it does not bring in any significant returns, but it makes them feel good to at least try.

@Richly - I agree with you too...

Much of the problem lies, IMHO, is that companies jump on social media b/c of the hype surrounding it. Social media doesn't replace core marketing principles, but rather expounds and enhances it. And with nearly everyone using it, it's easy to feel left behind. But if the basics work, focus on the basics. Please don't jump on social media b/c there are 150,000,000 potential customers on Facebook...

Great article for those who will read all of it. Doing anything half-way will get 0% of the desired results. web 2.0/Social media are not immune to this. If these tools cannot be used to monetize audiences, etc., they will be gone.

Since we know how valuable they are, I bet they're here to stay and those who can harness them will reap the rewards.

Great post Francois. I would slightly modify your general statement to "Most web 2.0 initiatives are disconnected from core processes." We could fill a blogosphere on that one. My hope is we'll start to see changes in this regard this year.
Happy New Year!
